Pilar Amo Ochoa es Doctora en Ciencias químicas y actualmente profesora titular de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Además de su actividad docente, ha participado en aproximadamente 11 proyectos de Investigación tanto nacionales como internacionales publicando más de 40 artículos científicos en revistas de alto índice de impacto. También ha colaborado en proyectos de innovación y mejora de la calidad docente, y de divulgación científica siendo responsable del proyecto subvencionado por la FECYT y la Comunidad de Madrid, “Conocer la Ciencia Hoy, abre las Puertas del Mañana”. Pilar Amo-Ochoa is co-author of more than 40 research papers in high quality international journals (incl. Chem. Soc. Rev., Angewandte Chem., Adv. Mat., Chem. Comm., Inorg. Chem.) and three book chapters. She has been working in bioinorganic chemistry for many years and more recently she has refocused her research towards the synthesis of novel nanomaterials based on metal modified DNA, coordination polymers. She is working also in adsorption and characterization of coordination polymers on surfaces including electrical properties.

Research Interest

Our current research is focused on the development of new molecular wires based on coordination polymers (MOF).

The recent work is centered in the design, synthesis, structural and electrical characterization of 1D-MOF, to be organized on insulated surfaces (ei. mica) and electrically characterized as “individual chains”.

We are exploring new synthetic routes using microwaves, solvothermal, etc.

Experiments of electrical properties of single chains derived of MOF are currently undergoing.

The suitable selection of the functional groups attached to the 1D-MOF will allow supramolecular interaction of the new molecular wires with other polymers and organized them on surfaces to facilitate construction of nanocircuits for instance by interaction with molecules with structuring capability such as DNA.

Research Lines

– Coordination polymers for novel nanomaterials.

– Molecular wires based on coordination and “MMX” polymers and metal-modified DNA.

– Metal-DNA functional nanostructures.

– Development of new synthetic strategies of coordination polymers.

– Novel microscopical applications: Use of AFM and STM microscopes in the morphological and electrical characterization of molecular wires.

Tasks

-Synthesis and characterization of 1D- and 2D-MOF with: (i) short metal-metal distances,

(ii) ligand bridges able to connect electronically metal centers.

-Electrical characterization on solid state of the MOF.

-Adsorption of the MOF showing electrical conductivity in solid state on insulated

surfaces.

-Electrical characterization on surfaces of the isolated chains or 2D networks of the MOF.

-Studies of the supramolecular interaction between selected MOF showing conductivity

and DNA.
